Ayurvedic prospective:
According to Ayurveda, our body is formed of five elements which contribute to form a three doshas or energies of body which are Vatta, Kapha and Pitta doshas. If there is imbalance between these doshas then it can cause impairment in body function. Among them weak digestion system leads into accumulation of toxic substances known as “Ama” in the colon (byproduct of waste material which is not excreted properly from the body). These toxic substances traversed via blood circulation to various parts of the body and starts accumulating to different sites such as joints, bones and muscles. The prolonged accumulation of these substances causes the inflammation on the sites resulting into the stiffness, swelling redness and joint pain. In knee joint pain, the toxic substances accumulate over the knee joint which cause knee joint pain.
